Air Fryer Whole Chicken

Cooking a whole chicken in the air fryer is a great way to get a delicious, healthy meal on the table. The chicken cooks quickly and evenly, and the results are juicy and crispy. Plus, there's no need to heat up your oven - the air fryer does all the work!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 3 to 5-pound whole chicken, neck and giblets removed

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, rosemary, basil, thyme, and black pepper.
  • Place the butter in another small bowl and add half of the spice mixture.
  • Stir until all the ingredients are incorporated.
  • Rub the butter mixture underneath the skin and dry spices on the outside of the chicken.
  • Tie the legs with kitchen twine if you want.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 350° F.
  • Place the chicken in the basket breast side down.
  • Cook for 40 minutes.
  • Flip and cook for an additional 10 to 20 minutes (depending on the size of your chicken), until the internal temperature is 160° F.
  • Allow to rest for at least 5 minutes before carving and serving.
