When you take creamy avocado, coat it with perfectly seasoned low carb breading, and air fryer (or bake) it to crunchy perfection, you've got a delicious treat that never fails to satisfy. These Keto Avocado Fries make a great appetizer, snack, or side dish. I highly recommend a dipping sauce for this recipe. I've included a simple Sriracha mayo, but blue cheese and ranch work great too.

Long before I embraced a low carb diet, I have been avocado-obsessed.

Whether I am spreading them on Keto Avocado Toast, making a Caprese Salad, or enjoying them with Steak Fajitas, there is something so magical about their creamy goodness.

I suppose that it is no surprise that these Keto Avocado Fries are my latest obsession. Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, they are my idea of the perfect appetizer or upgraded side dish.

If you have tried my Keto Zucchini Chips or my Keto Fried Pickles, you will recognize the almond flour and parmesan cheese breading combo from there. They are a great alternative to panko breadcrumbs when you are trying to stay low carb and gluten-free. Like those recipes, these air fryer avocado fries get perfectly crisp.

If you choose to bake them, they will still crisp up, just not quite as much. With about 3.5 net carbs per serving, this is a fun side that perfectly fits your ketogenic diet.

Ingredients for Making Avocado Fries Keto

    • Avocado -  Try to choose a firmer avocado - even firmer than you would typically choose - for this recipe. It will be easier to bread and hold up better.
    • Almond Flour  - Do not confuse almond flour with almond meal. For the best results, you want finely ground almond flour for this recipe. If you do have almond meal, you can give it a whirl in your food processor to achieve a finer consistency.
    • Parmesan Cheese - Go for fresh grated or the pre-grated kind you get in the grocery store's refrigerator section. I do not recommend going with the shelf-stable kind.
    • Garlic Powder - While I adore the kick that comes with garlic, I realize that it is not for everyone. If you are not a fan of garlic, feel free to reduce or eliminate it.
    • Salt and Pepper -  Adjust the seasoning to your liking.
    • Eggs -  I used large eggs; whatever you have on hand will work.
    • Lemon Juice -  This helps the avocado to hold for longer without browning. It can also help to reduce some of the bitterness that avocado can develop when cooked.
    • Mayonnaise - Make sure you check the label and choose one without sugar.
    • Sriracha  - I am a big fan of sriracha, but whatever hot sauce that you have on hand works. Make sure you read the nutrition information - it is surprising how different brands vary in carb count.

    • Breading Trays or Shallow Bowls
    • Air Fryer or Baking Sheet and Parchment Paper

    Tips & Tricks

    • Avoid overly ripe avocado - whether you are baking, air frying, or decide to try this recipe deep-fried, ripe avocados will fall apart.
    • I recommend the smaller Hass avocado rather than the larger kind grown in Florida. They are creamier and less watery.
    • If your avocado is very unripe, the best way to ripen them is in the refrigerator. This can take up to four days, but keep in mind that we want our avocados to be just slightly under-ripened for this recipe.

    Serving Suggestions

Keto Avocado Fries make a fabulous appetizer but also are a phenomenal gluten-free side dish. When I am serving a side like this one, I like to keep my main dish simple. Try a steak with this Keto Steak Marinade or this Air Fryer Chicken.

Dipping Sauces for Keto Fried Avocado

I have given you a great easy dipping sauce in the recipe, but sometimes it is fun to mix things up. Try using this Keto Ranch Dressing or Keto Blue Cheese Dressing for fun alternatives.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Are avocados keto-friendly?

Avocados are an excellent option on a keto diet. They have about 30 grams of fat (depending on the size), and two-thirds of this is monounsaturated fat, which improves good cholesterol levels and lowers bad cholesterol.

They are high in fiber. Avocados are also a source of protein, potassium, and magnesium. They also contain folate. This B vitamin has decreases homocysteine levels, an amino acid that is linked to heart disease.

    Can I store this recipe?

You probably already know that avocados don't keep well. Because of this, it is best to make this recipe just before you serve it.

That being said, I did reheat a few pieces the next day in my air fryer basket, and they were surprisingly good. Because of the lemon juice, they hadn't browned yet. They made great "croutons" for a salad.

How to Make Keto Avocado Fries

    Slicing Avocado for Avocado Fries

The first thing you want to do is slice your avocado. Slice the avocado in half around the pit with a chef's knife. Place the edge of the blade into the pit, and twist to remove the pits.

Place the avocado halve on a cutting board with the skin side up and gently peel the avocado's skin. Cut each half in half, and then each piece into three sections.

    Dipping the Avocado

Next, in a bowl, mix the flour, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

In a separate shallow bowl, beat together the eggs and lemon juice.

Carefully dip the avocado slices into the eggs. As you lift the pieces out of the egg mixture, allow a little bit of it to drain off.

Then transfer to the almond flour mixture, and gently coat the avocado with the mixture. Press the coating into the sides to help it stick.

    Air Fryer Avocado Fries

    Preheat your air fryer.

Spray the avocado with oil spray. Depending on your air fryer model and how prone it is to stick, you can use air fryer liners or spray or brush the air fryer with oil.

    Oven-Baked Keto Fried Avocado

Preheat your oven and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

Arrange the avocado in a single layer, and spray with oil spray.

Cook until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
