The Perfect Keto Halloween Party Dish

Who else likes to make fun treats and savory dishes for Halloween?

If you are looking for a fun twist on your favorite Keto Jalapeno Poppers, you are going to love these Keto Mummy Jalapeno Poppers.

Traditional mummy jalapeno poppers use crescent rolls and candy eyes. These jalapeno popper mummies have of the flavor of the original.

Instead of crescent roll dough we use a fathead crust to wrap your cheese-stuffed jalapeno. Candy eyeballs are a no-go on keto, so I've replaced them with olives.

The result is a delicious appetizer with the nutrition you need to stay on track and minimal carbohydrates.

I think you will agree that these popper mummies deserve to become an annual tradition! It is perfect for your next Halloween party.

Ingredients for Making Mummy Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

Overhead photo of a bowl of shredded mozzarella and cream cheese, prep bowls with jalapenos, cream cheese and seasonings, dry ingredients for fathead dough, two eggs, and olives.

Ingredients for Making Mummy Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

    • Jalapeños: Aim for medium-to-large jalapeños. The actual number that the filling will fill will depend on the size of the peppers.
    • Cream Cheese: Use full-fat.
    • Garlic Powder: Fresh minced garlic may be substituted.
    • Smoked Paprika:  You can use hot or mild.
    • Fathead Pizza Dough: Use the recipe here, omitting the Italian seasoning.
    • Egg: Use a large egg.
    • Stuffed Olives: I used pimento-stuffed olives, but you can substitute whatever you like for the eyes.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Don't worry about the baked mummy jalapeno poppers being perfect. Mummy's are supposed to be a little crazy-looking. If the fathead dough breaks, just use your fingers to reattach it.
    • I recommend that you wear gloves when working with jalapeño peppers. This is especially important if you wear contacts, have small children, or frequently touch your eyes.
    • When cutting the dough into thin strips, I find that a pizza cutter is very helpful.
    • Feel free to play with the spices! Onion powder can be used in place or in addition to the garlic powder. You can use sweet paprika if you don't have smoked paprika. These little mummies are infinitely adaptable so have fun.

    Variations

    • You can mix ½ cup of sharp cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, monterey jack cheese into the cream cheese mixture and spices if you like.
    • Don't want to go to the trouble of making fathead dough strips? You can use bacon to wrap the poppers instead.

    Storage

This Halloween mummy jalapeno poppers recipe is best when cooked just before you are planning to serve.

(It is OK to prepare the recipe through stuffing the jalapeno peppers ahead of time, but wait to add the crust until a few hours before your Halloween party.)

Leftovers, if you have them, can be kept for up to three days. I like to use my air fryer to reheat them.

    Frequently Asked Questions

When working with fresh jalapeno peppers, always use food handling gloves. If you don’t have any, I recommend putting your hands in plastic bags.

Even so, wash your hands well afterward and avoid touching your mouth and eyes.

Can this recipe be made ahead of time?

You can prep the jalapenos and stuff them ahead of time, but wait to add the fathead crust until a few hours before you are ready to cook them.

    Storage

This Halloween mummy jalapeno poppers recipe is best when cooked just before you are planning to serve.

Leftovers, if you have them, can be kept for up to three days. I like to use my air fryer to reheat them.

How to Make Mummy Jalapeno Poppers

First, start by preheating your oven.

Slice the jalapenos lengthwise and then seed the peppers. Remove the white membranes to help tame the heat.

    • Jalapeno halves that have been partially roasted on paper towels with a cream cheese filling sitting next to them.
    • Small white bowl with a cream cheese mixture in it.
    • Mummy jalapeno poppers on a parchment lined baking sheet ready to go into the oven.

Place the jalapenos cut side down on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake for 7 minutes.

Transfer to a paper towel and cool.

Stir together the cream cheese, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

Spoon the cheese mixture into the jalapenos.

Roll out the pizza dough and cut into strips. Wrap the peppers with the dough, leaving room for the eyes. Don’t worry if the dough breaks - just work it back together with your hands.

Brush with the egg and then bake for 15 minutes.

Top with the olives for eyes.
